MSM Mentoring...

Mentoring is a broad term that can mean many different things. The most valuable element to mentoring is being a consistent and encouraging presence in the life of a student. There are many different ways to mentor, and mentoring will look different for different types of people. The matches that we make will help in making sure the mentoring relationship is natural. We faciliate two different types of mentoring.

School Based Mentoring

School Based Mentoring is facilitated in partnership with the administration of a local school. School based mentoring will happen in the context of a school day and on the school campus. This mentoring could also include tutoring. The matching process for School Based is not as extensive, and it is a great entry point for mentors who are not ready to commit to a community based opportunity. The School Based program runs during the school year.

Community Based Mentoring

In Community Based Mentoring, the meetings between Big and Little Brothers and Sisters occur off campus and in the rhythms of life outside of school. Because these meeting happen beyond the scope of the school, we are more thorogh in background checks, training, matching, and accountability. Our desire is for Community Based Mentoring relationships to last for a long time. Our Community Based program will be focused on Jr. High Students.

Training and Accountability

We don't enter into mentoring relationships lightly, and protecting the students is our highest priority. All mentors will go through a thorough training program and will be followed up with on an ongoing basis. Our partnership with Big Brothers and Big Sisters is incredibly valuable in this regard. We are grateful for their support and help.
